Well count me among the unemployed - more time to cook now

and do some things I've wanted to do while I search for a new job. May mean a budget crunch for a while and may mean a lower paying job but something will come around.

Count me too. We've decided to close our store at the end of this month. We simply can't afford

to keep losing money. We have a lease until September but I called the landlady and told her we plan to leave. She may or may not give us a break, but if not we plan to fight it. If we find a new tenant she'll let us go, but that is a stretch right now because she will not come down on the rent.

Our once-bustling street now has about 1/4 empty storefronts.

I am going to continue with my art and my cooking. Jacques isn't sure what he plans to do. When people ask he says, "I'm going to stop losing money."

A friend has a card that says his name aka Your Kitchen B***h

I'll be your kitchen b****, your construction B**** - whatever you want. Think I am going to start plugging some private classes in homes and such and maybe at the library. Supplement the unemployement and the severance package - just see how it goes. I have lots of talents to call on so I'll just see what I can do freelancing the stuff I know.

You have a great attitude, Missy. I think this is the right time for everyone to take inventory

of their talents. I encourage the classes--mine have started filling up. I'm not getting rich at it but it's something. I think people see it as a good value--a nice meal in a relaxed setting and an education at the same time. People are resigned to having to eat at home more often and they want to learn to cook.

MCM, Great attitude...I am sorry, I know it must be hard, but your outlook is very positive...Might

be a fun time to pick up a new hobby...I have been thinking of gardening. So sorry!!

Would that be a life sentence?? Come on down! Y'all too, Missy and Joe!

They say the recession hasn't hit as hard down here. I must say, housing prices aren't budging in the Austin area, but I think we are all in for a long haul.

((Mar!)) I didn't hear anything about LHM.. What would the Texas lawyers say about GBH&Cookies? smileys/smile.gif

Missy, Marilyn, Joe & Jacques, I'm sorry to hear what's happening to you.

You are all so very talented that I have high hopes that you will soon be back in the saddle.

Good luck and all the wishbone-breaks I win will be for you guys.

After stocking the break room with baked goods for free all those years!? Marilyn, I am so sorry.

Thanks everyone. I keep alternating between profound relief and deep disappointment.

It's been bad for two years, and I look forward to wrapping things up, but it still is a loss.

At least we'll be able to take a vacation this spring, the first in 3 years, even though it will probably be a camping trip or visiting relatives for free.

If you like country music you can come visit me - I'll even let you camp out in the woods

Got plenty of extra room, almost 6 acres almost completely wooded to camp on, stars in the neighborhood (football, model, racing, and country music plus the ones in the sky) Good food and friends - what more can you ask for?
