What do you take to eat on an airplane? My last trip, the TSA nazi confiscated my peanut butter

Depends on the time - usually 2 pieces of fruit to have for breakfast and if it is a day flight...

with a meal included I take a sandwich. We have a great cafe in the airport here so I can get a good sandwich there if I don't have time to get one before. Night flights I just don't eat. I wouldn't eat a meal in the middle of the night at home so I don't.
All of this is about long flights. Short ones I only take a piece of fruit.

i detest flying, but i love to travel..

usually we are with 3 kids in tow, so my choices are easy and not messy, but they work. string cheese, yogurt, dried fruit, veggie sticks with dip, and pb and j sandwiches, triscuits, etc. i tried sushi once, my 9 yr olds favorite food, hit a rough patch in the air...soy and wasabi everywhere. eat what you need to and save your appetite for real food when you get there.

can't take yogurt unless you buy it in the terminal. string cheese! I'd forgotten about that - thx!

HA! Gotta agree, but I always seem to crave salty things when I fly... not that I'd turn down choc.

We often order a pizza the night before, since we're so busy with packing and getting away, then

take the leftover pizza with us on the plane. We love cold pizza.

Please explain the reason for the peanut butter. UK trip is suddenly back on

(yikes!) and I'm flipping out here trying to get it all together (while keeping it all together.)

Awesome news! You and Lar deserve the trip together! If I recall correctly, it is coming up quickly

Yeah, it's a brand of flavored nuts. They sell them at Starbucks, Costco, Whole Foods, Walmart, etc.

I've tried them all. While they're all good, my favorites are the Tuscan almonds and the Valdosta (Pecans with Cranberries, Black Pepper + Orange Zest)

Just remembered...my friend bakes crustless quiche in large muffin cups. Her husband works in

another state during the week, comes home on the weekends. So she sends him off with a bunch of these crustless quiche. Their easy, portable and use up ingredients in the fridge.

On the same note, another friend of mine owns a bakery and she does something similar with a savory bread pudding baked in muffin cups.

I'd be thrilled to have either one of these on a flight with me!

No liquids or gels. I guess they classify PB as a gel. I saw

them take a jar of blueberry jam away from someone at the airport in Maine.

Have a great trip!

Always pack nuts or trail mix for those unforseen tarmac delays. And water.

(have to get robbed, er, buy that in the airport)
Sandwiches are the easiest and best snack, I think.

I bring pistachios. I find that it passes time to remove the shell, so we don't eat as many.

I also bring cut up red peppers, carrots and grapes. I use a small plastic container; roughly 3*6*2; that does not get smooshed and make a point to find the same / similiar items for the return flight. Even on business trips, it works. Amazing how much is served during "breaks" that could be saved and used for the return flight.

Agree with Mo, buy a big water. The last thing you want is to be "stuck" or delayed and not have any.

I would recommend not purchasing the fast food options at the airport. I am sure they are fine and safe. BUT, if your stomach is not used to fast food, you could have problems on the plane. I have seen this happen more than once. A passenger sets themselves up with a huge burger with all the fixins (You can smell it aisles down) and the next thing they are struggling to get to the bathroom.

Safe Travels!

getting around the tsa...

you can take liquids onto a plane, i have taken liters of water that i needed to mix with powdered meds. they test them and shoo you away. a tsa guy told me that if you declare that they are for medical purposes they will be allowed. same goes for food. otherwise take an empty water bottle and fill it up at the terminal. just check out the tsa rules on the net. you will be surprised
