What kitchen item do you litterally wear out?

Over the years I have learned to invest in quality - like cast iron, fireproof porcelain and stainless steel - when I buy kitchen stuff. I use my stuff a lot and I want them to last as long as possible.

That works on almost everything except SPATULAS!

I have bought them in every material and in every price range, but I break them/ stain them/ melt them, you name it....

I bought a pair of new spatulas today and I expect them to live for a year.

As with sunglasses, I lose spatulas before I can wear them out, but I go through wooden spoons

because I use them constantly. Mine are all chipped and warped. My one bamboo one seems to be holding up better.

I used to wear out spatulas all the time

but since I've switched to the silicon ones, I haven't worn any out. My Farberware cookware is still going strong after 43 years of marriage. I got them as a wedding gift and just replaced the handles recently. I tend to wear out dishwashers. I often do 2 or 3 loads in one day when I'm doing a lot of baking or cooking and hate to wash anything by hand.

I have trouble with the meat thermometers. I always seem to get the digital one wet. Old fashioned

one seems to get bent in the cabinet.

Yep, I kill those spatulas too -- good thing I live near "Spatula CITY"!!! heheheh

Those little meat thermometers die quickly, and for some reason I have bought 3 coffee grinders in the last two years.

Me, three. Mine always get singed or cracked or something.

I bought one made of olive wood--it seems to be holding up really well and the handle feels good in the hand. I'd love to have a whole set.

I wear out my spatulas the most of any kitchen tool.

I've learned not to put my wooden spoons in the dishwasher, and that has helped 100%.

I also buy the heat resistant spatulas, and that has helped.

I just got the BEST peeler I've ever had

it's by Swiss Pro and available at www.chefharvey.com. Absolutely incredible! I didn't know that it could make suce a difference. This was a freebie but I'll be ordering another one for me and a couple for gifts.

Plastic cutting boards--my Boos board stays nice, the smaller plastic..

ones don't last long before they get nicked and stained.

Just bought a bamboo one. We'll see if it was worth the price.

Bowl scrapers and digital thermometers/timers...

I am constantly replacing my silicone scrapers. The new heat-resistant ones are better, but some still get weary along the edges after a while.

The other item is 2-fold. I seem to go through instant read thermometers. The analog ones last longer than the digital.

Also, I have worked my way through any number of Polder thermometer/timer combination with probe cable. They are good for a while, then start acting like a bratty child and sometimes work, but mostly give nonsense for readings.
The timer/thermometer issue is more of a concern, since they are not $5 items.

Candy thermometer's, spatulas, towels and dish cloths!

I keep my eyes open for towels and stock up whenever I find some I like. Keep them rotated into my rag drawer when they start looking like 'shop rags'. Love pretty towels but they get worn pretty badly by constant use.
