Where is everyone? It's been like a ghost town here for weeks. Anyone out there? Hey, Melissa, it

good luck!

It's good to have all things more or less decided and bought, we are at that stage. Just ordered the granite for the central island (by the way, OUCH!) - and the only major decision left to make is how we'll deal with the cabinets' frames - the doors will be pure light wood, but we want to add some color to the frames, possibly a distressed light color

It will be great when it's all done!

Thanks, Pat--sorry to hear about your crazy tour-bus woes! Hope the next trip is better. smileys/smile.gif

Nope--sixty blocks north! smileys/wink.gif Close to a Fairway! (And many parks, etc.)

And the Hungarian Pastry Shop is about 10 blocks away. Hurray!

Thanks, Sally. The granite I ordered is beautiful. However, when I went

to the warehouse to choose the slabs (I recommend doing that if you have the option, which you should) the slabs looked very little like the small sample piece at the store (mother nature of course, and the mine the granite came from). Waiting for more slabs to come in next week for a better selection. In the meantime, while I was there at the granite warehouse choosing slabs, other slab patterns were calling my name...lol. Was warned that this could happen and that it's not a problem at all to change my mind and get something different. Sitting with it for a few days to see. smileys/smile.gif It's a fun process remodeling the kitchen. smileys/smile.gif Have fun with your remodel as well.

Ha, right, several broken down tour buses. Still, it was a great trip, and NYC was great

fun. So much to see and do. Not to mention all the great places to dine! Must go back! Oh, and your weather was GREAT too while we were there. Mostly 70 degrees, very low humidity, and a nice light breeze. Heaven!

May I comment on colour? It should match your cat. I have the most shedding cat ever. I have

black granite countertops. A black and white (Sylvester-type) cat but of course only her white fur flies up to the countertop, never the black. My neighbours who have the same countertops admit that it is so dark that they (and I) wait until morning to clean it because it's such a streaky mess.

Her fur is just all over every surface simply because she is in that same room.

Mostly lurking on my phone these days.

Not doing much cooking either! It seems like 2013 is the year for funerals. I am hoping things settle down so I can at least get my bushel of courtland apples! We were in New Mexico and I did manage to get several pounds of pseudo hatch peppers which I have already roasted and frozen.

We did just that!

in fact, the guy who will install the counter top told us he would not get a stone unless we picked it from the "real" slab. It was one of the most impressive placed I've ever been to! The machines to move the slabs around... WOW!

and I'd say more than 50% of the stones were from Brazil, including (of course) the one we picked Yukon White.

We are considering making the island a lot bigger to get our costs proportionally lower, as we have to pay for the full slab and negotiate with the fabricator for the final price.

LOL, thanks for the heads up. Your cat

is adorable (which I'm sure you remind yourself of when you are dealing with her fur....lol). Thankfully, no kitties here but I'm trying to stay away from really dark granite anyway since my kitchen is somewhat dark to begin with. Currently looking at lighter granite with big pops of color throughout. Fell in love with the sample of it at the store and keeping fingers crossed the next palette of granite slabs coming from the mine will be more like the sample. smileys/smile.gif

Impressive indeed to watch those machines

move the slabs around. I think it will also be an interesting process to watch the granite being installed on the counters.

Hungarian Pastry Shop?! Do they sell other "stuff?" Your just trying to entice me to come back

soon for a lunch date!
Congrats on the new apt. I am excited for you to have some space. Good luck with the move. (That is never the fun part!)

Fishing season. Red Salmon is about done, and Silvers have just started. fabulous summer weather too

Too late...I already paid extra for these and the last one I did change stalled construction for TWO

MONTHS. Larry suggested I get double-thick gel mats to stand on as I just need about 2 inches of height and this was standing on the sub-floor.

But I mean...really??? What bad luck.

The Hungarian Pastry Shop is usually full of Columbia students; you can take out the strudel, tho!smileys/smile.gif
