Your Saturday Six:

Six food things on your mind. Just jot 'em down, if you have a minute.

Here are mine... And yours?

1. Le Pain Quotidien makes pretty decent walnut bread, for a chain! Very good Sat. morning breakfast with coffee, butter, and fig preserves.

2. I have a food fairy godmother!

3. Guests are coming to stay for a week, and I have no idea what to feed them. Not everybody likes our crazy American-Czech-Israeli-NYC mashup that is meals at our house...

4. All my recipe cards are too small for real recipes. Why?!

5. There's really no way I could give up coffee.

6. Am a bit worried about the world, and the world of bacon, these days, thanks to The Flu That Shall Not Be Named.

Hope you're all well. smileys/smile.gif

My "Six"

1. Basque dinner tonight, I have salad and appetizers
2. Family members traveling overseas (1 in Italy & 1 in Turkey)
3. Schoolwork (grading papers)
4. Retirement imminent
5. Family Elders' health
6. Son's upcoming wedding smileys/smile.gif

(sorry, didn't catch the "food" theme)

1. Mini-mozz balls wrapped in Roasted Pepper Strips w/ Basil
2. Mini-Asparagus Clafouti
3. Sheepherder's Bread (do I have time for this?)
4. Calamari Salad w/ Red Pepper Couli Dressing
5. Raw veggies w/ Greek yogurt-gorgonzola dip
6. I have GOT to zest, squeeze, & freeze those Meyers Lemons!

My Saturday Six...

1. Can't wait to try making mini creme brulees in Chinese soup spoons as spied on the internet this morning. So darned cute (check them out at the link in the photo gallery).

2. Excited about having Living Cookbook software (finally) but wondering if I'll ever finish entering all the recipes I have on board, both T&T and TBT (to-be-tried).

3. Pondering tonight's dinner which will likely be the Quick Sausage and Mushroom Lasagna posted by Curious1 OR could be the grilled shrimp and vegetables with pearl couscous I saw yesterday at Epi.

4. Dying to try a new batch of ice cream today.

5. Make space on the bookshelf for the new cookbooks I acquired yesterday.

6. Hubby is taking me to brunch now...one of our Saturday favorites at a local breakfast spot is the crab and avocado benedict...sooo good.

Love the Creme Brulee idea... I'm hooked. Let us know how it goes if you try them. smileys/smile.gif

hmmmm....thoughts

1. Want to find out more about the origin of Patak products and the Pathak family. Saw a bit on CDN food show but the host kept interrupting Meena Pathak. Interesting story.

2.Want to try out my new coeur a la creme heart mold tonight, with raspberry sauce.

3. Gotta get into the garden. Have now pulled ALL of the February arugula and have to get some more in. A little whiney because my old rosemary plant succumbed during the winter. I love arugula salad with oranged vinaigrette and oyster mushrooms. So I now have a pail full of arugula with roots on, waiting for me.

4. Probably doing lamb biryani tonight with pappadums. Or the lamb merguez with collards again. Depends on whether we have a guest.

5. Why is this raccoon up and about at noon looking for leftovers from us?

6. Wish I could afford a new KA dishwasher.

Will do. About the recipe cards...back when I was still doing recipe cards I was using

4x6 size blank index cards (3x5 size was just too darned small). Once I'd tried a recipe and decided it was a keeper I would copy and paste or type it into a Wordperfect file where I had already adjusted the margins to fit the recipe cards. Then I would print the recipe and paste (with glue stick) onto the card. Sometimes the recipe would flow over to the back of the card but that was fine. It was a great little system for me for a number of years until I was trying so many new recipes it was hard to keep up with getting them on the cards. That's when I graduated to just keeping them stored in Wordperfect. Recently my T&T recipe file jumped over 1900 recipes and I decided it was really time to go with some cookbook software. I know others have been on board with such software for a long time...what can I say...I'm a late bloomer. ;o) I still love looking through my card system and kinda wish I could still have all the T&Ts in a recipe box because it's so much more fun to me to handle the recipes than view them on a computer screen. I guess I'm just a touchie-feelie kinda gal.)

Would love to hear more about your food fairy godmother.

Oh no, those hungry little mouths are such cute little balls of fur. Seems impossible though as our

neighbour has, I believe, been killing them as his outdoor dog barks at them at night, waking up the neighbourhood.

We have one lone raccoon left.

Pat, I also have all mine stashed on my hard drive... The cards are for a friend's bridal shower; >>

but even 4x6" cards are too small!

I don't have recipe software, either... Mine are all in my email. smileys/smile.gif))

My food fairy godmother is Traca, who kindly set me up with friends of hers here who are involved in all sorts of good NYC food living. smileys/smile.gif)

I wonder if you could broil those creme brulees... No access to a blowtorch, for me, alas... Good luck!

My Saturday Six....

1) Two mint juleps are too many - even on a full stomach. Swirly! Or maybe it was the aged bourbon over ice (Buffalo something) that did me in...

2) Thinly sliced watermelon doused with balsamic vinegar and sesame seeds are my new favorite food (with huge exceptions for green chile and bacon. And chocolate.)

3) A bowl of miso soup or chicken pho will cure most anything. I would like a bowl now, to counter the mint juleps!

4) Ricotta poundcake is The Bomb!

5) I love all the wonderful friends that I have made here over the years, this is an amazing and wonderful place! Did I say wonderful already??

6) There is something to be said about the cooking of the South. Think of all the treasures that come from there! Biscuits, gumbo, pulled pork with that vinegary sauce, monkey bread, black eyed peas, and my current favorite: Pate of the South (port wine cheese spread). And on and on. Cmon, it's brilliant!

Must go have a big glass of water and some pate of the South!

Have a great weekend!!

Very simple - Living in Paris and having....

Strawberry, lemon, and apple tarts
Madeleines
Goat cheese and too many other cheeses to list
Croissants and baguettes
Fresh strawberries
Steak frites
Salade composee
Wine and coffee
Chocolate
Tradtional Moroccan couscous

Okay, so I did more than 6!

My six (on a Sunday....)

1. I just talked STBDH into going to the garden center with me. They have waffles there smileys/smile.gif))

2. I'm FINALLY trying my new recipe for vegetarian bulgur salad with raisins today. I have been wanting to try it for weeks.

3. I just started eating more vegetarian food and I love the new vegetarian hamburgers I found in the store. Never thought I'd like vegetarian hamburgers much, but I really do.

4. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my six pound bag of white beans...yup, it was a sale item and buying it sounded good at the time...

5. I think I'll make a chocolate cake today.

6. I need to pay attention to my Ruhbarb. It's going to be ready any moment now, and I can make Ruhbarn pie (with vanilla ice cream). Yum!

My Sunday Six

1. I love Rice Krispies with really cold milk. With blueberries, it's almost the perfect meal.

2. What the !@#$% am I going to do with an 11-lb ham that we bought for house guests this weekend but didn't use? It will take us a month to eat it. Wasn't it Dorothy Parker who said that two people plus a ham equals eternity?

3. Our house guests brought us New York bagels and a New York cheesecake. Yay!

4. I wish these allergies would clear up so I could taste food properly again. And now I have sore throat. (Not really food related, but I had to whine.)

5. I made a chocolate cake this weekend--yummy!

6. Made a yogurt, cream, brown sugar mix to go over fruit (from www.thepioneerwoman.com). It's so good--I could just drink it straight. I served it over diced strawberries in champagne flutes. So pretty.

My Sunday Six

1. I'd like to be a houseguest at Amanda_Pennsylvania's - yumm - I'll help you eat that ham, AND the chocolate cake

2. I want to try Chinese dumplings sometime this week

3. I'm on a bacon kick and out of bacon (did you know that a tiny bit of bacon grease smeared on an English muffin really is pretty good!?)

4. I reeeealy like Burger King's turbo coffee, especially on a Sunday morning

5. Wondering where can I buy a replacement bowl for my rice steamer since it was used as an emergency catch for some gasoline leaking out of gas can (

6. I like my Rice Krispies lukewarm, unlike Amanda, but glad to know that someone else eats RK as DH keeps telling me there's no food value in it
