FRC snark alert: I'm tempted to start a really snarky thread about cooking show pet peeves. Reason?

Lol, many older recipes for lasagna use cottage cheese as ricotta wasn't readily available to

home cooks in most parts of the country. I bet several here had a mom who used it or has used it as I did in the 60s.

I thought it was funny when Cook's Illus. featured a recipe for baked ziti using cottage cheese

instead of ricotta in their March 2009 issue. They called it a secret weapon. You may faint now, smileys/wink.gif.

Cocktails on a lanai in Anchorage? Not in February! CathyZ from Kauai's? Definitely! smileys/smile.gif

I made lasagna for the first time when we moved to Saudi and ricotta

was not available. So I used creamed cottage cheese. No what? I think I like it better!

What's left to talk about? You've all got it pretty well covered. My latest peeve...

...is when cooks I like to watch because of their food and the things I might learn feel the need to bring their CHILDREN, grownup or still school-age, onto the show for some unknown reason. Or their spouses.

Oy.

I cook with my kids, ok? Have for YEARS. But I don't do so when other people are watching, as it is more a private little bonding thing, at least it is for me. It is laborious and more than a little B-O-R-I-N-G to watch Lidia, as she violates her show with her own grown STICK of a son, and her darling little grandkids, who have no reason to be there with the cameras ON.

Oy.

Charlie, I love ya, man. You know that. But if I have to watch that spoiled, bratty, mouthy, snotty, disrespectful Lainie Bayless one more time, I'm gonna scream! I WILL NOT watch his show if she shows up. Can't take it. His wife is an overbearing biyotch too. Lainie must be her apprentice. They treat their meal ticket like a dog, in my opinion.

Oy.

And I CRIED when I caught wind of how whipped and abused Jacques Pepin is! His wife is a BEAST to him! I've actually heard this from people who have witnessed it off-camera first hand. She treats this talented, gentle soul like dirt. Little snippets of it used to come through on his TV show. If you listen carefully, you can hear the hag tear him up at the table. Very sad.

Oy.

Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee can have their own threads, as I know the animosity runs high with them. I won't go there.

Thank you for listening.

Michael

You know "the chairman" is really a failed, B-grade chop-socky performer, seen as Wo Fat in the new

incarnation of "Hawaii 5-0"? At least he has something to fall back on.

I had no idea about Pepin's wife...

my gosh, if he was not married, a couple of decades older than me, and I was not happily married, I would ask him out... smileys/wink.gif

what a charming man! when I read his autobiography, I fell even more in love with his persona.
