I was just wondering what really wonderful foods come from you r areas. New Jersey is much maligned,

You’re absolutely right about Jersey tomatoes and corn Charlie! I was an ex south Jerseyite

only six years ago and I do miss them. Jersey is only less than a half hour drive over the river, but I should get some on the way back from the shore this summer!

Your mention of out of staters up the turnpike brought to mind the black & white scene of the Conehead family headed towards the toll booth in their oh-so-fake fast moving convertible... LOL!

Oranges, grapefruits, papayas, guavas, persimmons,

lemons, limes, bananas, plantains, fresh water large mouth bass, spiny lobster, stone crab, sweet corn, strawberries, sugar cane, Key lime pie and not to forget……Cuban food!

Melissa, we always have genuine gulf coast wild shrimp in Houston, but..

we still have to pay a few dollars per pound extra over the "farm-raised Asian" shrimp. I only purchase our own fresh gulf coast shrimp--there really is a difference in quality.

We love all that wonderful Alaskan Salmon, Halibut and Crab. The Black Bear population...

has grown so here in NJ that the debate over bear hunts is becoming frequent and heated. Had one a couple of blocks away last Fall, and we are far from the main bear areas.

No La Brea here, but my favorite bakery " Bread Alone" has some of their sour dough starter--not the

real thing, but not too shabby.

Cyn, those turkey joints ring a bell---I've had something similar years ago--thanks for reminding me

My local supermarket carries lots of La Brea breads. They arrive almost baked, then they finish

them off in their own ovens. I buy their pumpernickel and French baguette all the time. During the holiday season, I get their chocolate cherry round. Great stuff.

It’s been many years ago since I only went to Pat's once but I've been to Jim's on South St.

a few times over the years and was more impressed. Really good steak if you know what I mean with a great selection of toppings on a very delicious heavy-type Italian roll.

I took my niece from Scotland to Jim's last year while giving her a quick cultural tour. She’s only had “so-called” cheese steaks while exploring/working in Canada for a year long stint in Toronto and a British Columbia ski resort. She must have ordered everything she could see available for her cheese steak, including Cheez Wiz, none other... and her eyes spoke a thousand words. I enjoyed my usual favorite as well. Ready for this? Mushroom provolone cheese steak with raw onions and mayo… heaven! Drip factor el perfecto!

And how does this relate to charlie's post? What wonderfull foods come from your area?

I would have thought Hatch chiles would have been a better response.

At first I was thinking products that we ship but definitely HOT chicken, Hot fish, and fried pies..
