Pondering what it is with taste buds...why one person thinks cilantro tastes soapy yet others adore it. And why someone like me can’t abide goat cheese or lamb yet I swoon over most other foods. Must learn more about taste buds. Time to Google for articles, books, info.

Gee, this new coffee shared by a friend is soooo delicious. Must ask her the brand.

Wondering how I could ever give up coffee. Waking up with a hot cuppa is...well, there’s just something about it that helps make the transition from night to day.

Pondering what second appetizer to bring tomorrow to a Girls Night Out(In??) Indian cuisine dinner featuring shrimp curry with lemon and tomatoes, saffron rice, raita and mango chutney, and one appetizer of potato samosas with fresh coriander chutney.

Hmmm, what wines would go well with the above Indian cuisine? Ooooh, or better yet maybe some icy cold beer. Check Bevmo today to see what types of Indian brews are available.

Must delve more into pairing wines with food. Time to dig out my Andrea Immer cookbooks and get immersed. Ha, Immer is part of immersed. I guess the caffeine is kicking in.

Cilantro sure is a mystery. I feel frustrated when people ask me for help with recipes

but who don't like cilantro. What limitations that imposes.

Good appetizer for Indian is pakora. Shrimp, potato, onion, all of or one of. Since you have samosas, maybe shrimp and onion.

I wonder if you would be interested in the book "Taste" by Sybil Kapoor. H bought it for me years ago and has been bugging me to get into it lately. I think Joanie enjoyed it but it still collects dust on my shelf.

Wondering what to cook this weekend, not feeling terribly inspired

Researching restaurants in Portland, OR wondering what to eat and where - one week left to put together my plans. So much food, so little time.....

Heading to farmer's market to see what they have and hoping they don't run out of strawberries before I get there

Worrying about the Second Harvest fundraiser that I had committed to before knowing I was going to Portland. Worrying about making a good impression after last year's disaster - pepto bismol pink strawberry soup with mint.

Wondering what to fix this week to have ready for mom to eat when she stays with DD week after next - if I don't cook, she's liable not to eat.

Desperately need to clean and reorg the spice drawers.

My Saturday Sicks

No, that's not a typo - allergies or SOMEthing is really bothering my lungs

Pat - maybe it's genetics - I know there are some things some people just can't taste (I remember putting a strip of something on my tongue to test in genetics class) or smell, for that matter. Apsaragus contains a chemical that some people can't smell on it's way out ;o) and some people can.

Wondering which great-sounding recipe I'll try for my turkey tenders tonight, thank you. I also found a blueberry chutney/turkey recipe from Moyn, which also looks good except I think I'd substitute some other fruit for her blueberries.

I've got to plant those tomato plants this weekend - they won't plant themselves!

Looking forward to strawberry-picking soon - in my backyard but probably more "fruitful" - lol, no pun intended - at a nearby commercial field

Making some more copper penny carrots for Monday's picnic and parade

Wondering what everyone else is doing for the weekend to celebrate Memorial Day

Wondering why disposable containers seem to multiply in my cupboards

There is nothing like cold pizza for breakfast but I'm going to smell like a garlic bulb ALL DAY!

I'm going to make The soy Ginger slow cooked ribs that Susan posted yesterday and I'm pretty excited about it but I had better get out to the store soon or it's cold pizza for dinner too!

I am now the proud parent of a venerable sourdough starter named Son of Blarf -or SOB - from a friend I met on twitter. It's growing away happily but I'm going to need a bigger tub soon, he's in his second home already. It's like having another cat! I put the story on the blog.

Does anyone have a favorite deviled ham recipe? It seems there as many versions of this as there are salsa recipes.

This is my first Memorial Day alone and I'm not doing my usual party for the crowd of friends from my "couple" days. After a year they have all disappeared and it makes me feel like I've wasted 7 years of my life. I now have a handful of true blue friends but they are all busy this weekend. ( want some bread and cheese with that whine??)

Haagen Daz now makes a caramelized pear and candied pecan ice cream that is The Bomb! Discovered it yesterday at my local corner store and today I want to buy up the rest of their stock and kiss the store owner (except for the aforementioned garlic breath!).

A gal I met on twitter blogged about her mother's caramel slice recipe and I'm going to try it out tonight and share it with you here if it turns out. Ever hear of these slice recipes before? My English cousin makes apple slice so it might be a British thing.

Happy Saturday!

My Saturday 6

1. Pat, a waiter at Tabla told me that the reaction to cilantro is genetic. Hope that helps in your Googling! smileys/smile.gif

2. Guests have departed, and we were sorry to see them go: so low-maintenance, so chocolate-bearing, so excited to be here. smileys/smile.gif They turned up one evening with a smorgasbord of cold cuts, veggies, and bread to share.

3. It's G&T season, and all I have is Z&T (Zithromax and Tylenol). Wah. Feeling better, though, and will do salmon and a fresh green bean salad for dinner.

4. I feel like investigating trifles, this summer. Any recommendations?

5. The neighborhood just to the east of us has some great street food: tacos and churros, but also trays of sliced fresh mango and papaya.

6. Very excited about the launch of Edible Queens. The Edible mags are troves of good food reporting and off-the-beaten-path finds. smileys/smile.gif

Happy weekend!

1. Bought shower gift this morning; a couple of friends and I went in on some luxurious bath sheets.
2. Went to the garden centre for some organic material so I could start working on my pots.
3. Got all the plants that were bought potted. Yea!
4. Pulled grass and weeds out of the tulip bed.
5. Thinking about what to prepare for tonight's supper. One of our local grocery stores has lobster on sale. Hmmmmmm! Lobster & salad???????????
6. Heading for the store>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My Saturday Six....

1. I can't believe it is Saturday already!!! Seems like yesterday I was reading/catching up with everyone's six

2. Planted and planted...did I mention planted? Peas coming up nicely, hungarian beans look great. Haven't had a garden in years, so learning as I go....But having fun!

3. Got my hair done today. Was struck by how many people were requesting not to have their hair blown out after the cut to save on $$. This is a really sad/strange time we are living in. Hoping the economy improves.

4. Went to the aquarium yesterday. (Erin, I must have been near you...Will check your link on edible queens). Beautiful day, I discovered I am a fan of the Walrus!!! Such fun, I could watch for hours!

5. Party Tomorrow will be bringing Pat's recipe for CousCous Carnival. (Tx again Pat for a keeper!)

6. Party on Monday will be making a stringbean salad.

Did I mention that I can't believe it is Saturday already!!

My Saturday Sucks -

It started to rain on Friday afternoon, and hasn't stopped yet. (South Alabama) No planting annuals, no potting up basil, no BBQing, but a pitcher of Richard in Cincy's Pineapple Margahooties has just made my day brighter.

DH remarked, "Can you imagine what it would be like to be cooped up in a condo on the beach with some screaming, yelling young 'uns on a day like this?" (He apparently has a low opinion of children!)

My Saturday Dix

Found a Espanoza plant at the Farmers Market

Found a Thai Sweet Basil, as well

Made a chicken dish for dinner tonight, I used to make the kids when they were home.

Started redoing our rock garden, finally putting in plants that should be in a rock garden.

Cleared out one bed of bolting cool weather crops and putting in summer veggies.

Looking forward to a BBQ on Monday with some close friends.

I love this feature, so here goes...my Saturday 6...

I really, really want Randi to invite "whomever" for dinner.

I found out today that one of my favorite vegetable stands is closing and looking for a new site as their lease hasn't been renewed. There used to be so many, so few anymore.

Really pissed that Publix was out of the BOGO blackberries, but I got a rain check.

Chopsticks make a great tool for cutting a potato "not quite through" so onion can be inserted in the slots, wrapped in foil and baked. Looking foreward to dinner, in a few.

I need to go back to Fresh Market over the weekend, get 5 lbs of non-farmed 16-20 shrimp for $9 a lb, so I can buy frozen and not pay for the ice. (When I buy 5 lbs, they tare and just charge for 5 lbs instead of the almost 6 lbs that includes ice).

While I'm at Fresh Market, I need to buy more of that wonderful asparagus and blueberries.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm off to eat the grilled steaks, salad and potatoes with Vidalia onions wrapped in foil.
