Happy Labor Day!!!

No way, cheezz....lol, get out your kitchen scales! Or put one on your Christmas wish list. smileys/wink.gif

That's the problem... I don't own kitchen scales... just no more room in my kitchen smileys/smile.gif

I notice at the bottom of the recipe is "food history" which says:

"This tart was once called “the tart of three cups” because it was made with a cup of cornmeal, a cup of wheat flour and a cup of sugar"

Would that be good equivalency for the 'pounds'?

Cheez, can't the lbs be converted to grams and then grams to cups? I tried that and got 5 2/3 cups

flour. Also found this site but can only bring up the cached version. It converts several ingredients in the recipe from lbs to cups. According to it, 1.5 lb of flour would be 6 cups, so you could adjust from 5 2/3 to 6 cups as needed. Good luck.

Found a great converter for just about anything! >>

Ingredients
• 1 ½ lb all-purpose flour = 6.85 cups
• 1 ¼ lb butter = 1.948 cups
• 1 lb granulated sugar = 4.6 cups
• 4 oz egg yolks = 8 Tbl
• ½ oz yeast = 0.0487 cups (0.779 Tbl)
• lemon zest, grated
• 1 ¾ oz almonds - 0.17 cups (2.7 Tbl)
• ⅞ lb cornmeal = scant 4 cups

P.S. Neighborhood block party - I took peach/blackberry pie, and

a corn salsa to go with pulled pork someone else brought.

Man, am I sick of peanut butter sundaes. I had them about once a week all summer long...

cheezz, that conversion is off. I use a scale all the time and use the following ...

1 cup of:

Sugar = 7 oz
Flour, lightly spooned and swept= 4.5 oz
Flour, scooped and swept= 5 oz
Cornmeal = 5 oz

The butter conversion is a dead giveaway that it's not right. 1 pound of butter is 4 sticks, or 2 cups, so 1 1/4 lbs should come out to 5 sticks, or 2 1/2 cups.

Since the conversion of weight to volume is not perfect, I usually round the converted weight to the nearest standard volume measurement. For example, if the conversion is 2.27876 cups, I'd round to to 2 1/4 cups.

Here's what I came out with, which is very different from yours:

• 1 ½ lb all-purpose flour = 5 1/3 cups or 4 3/4 cups, depending on method of measuring
• 1 ¼ lb butter = 2 1/2 cups
• 1 lb granulated sugar = 2 1/4 cups
• 4 oz egg yolks = 7 egg yolks
• ½ oz yeast = 2 packets or 4 1/2 teaspoons
• lemon zest, grated
• 1 ¾ oz almonds - 1/4 cup
• ⅞ lb cornmeal = 2 3/4 cups

But I agree with Pat - get a scale! I love, love, love mine, and it's small enough to fit in a drawer smileys/smile.gif
