We have jsut got a few new channels and one of them is the foodie channel! So now I will know....

LOL, she could kick guests out of a dinner party, one by one, for using the wrong fork or something.

I like Iron Chef America now and then, just to see what they come up with the "secret"

ingredient. however, I don't believe that it's a secret to them. I just can't buy into, even the best chefs, creating 5 dishes without any prior thought going into it. not to mention that all their sous chefs seem to know exactly what to do.

I'd love to be a judge on there and taste some of the creations.

Not long ago they had a "behind the scenes" type show and they said

they really don't know until it is revealed. I think it was Bobby Flay who said they go with dishes in mind and then adapt to what ever the ingredient is. It was an interesting look at how they tape the show and the people and cameras in play. I was a bit disappointed to learn that there are many test kitchen chefs down on the floor, watching what was being done and feeding the info up to Alton. I thought he came up with all that stuff on his own.

They find out the secret ingredient when they tape the intro reveal - so they have

about 15 minutes before the actual competition begins to formulate a plan.

As orchid said, one of the Iron Chefs said a strategy is to make a menu and fit the secret ingredient into it as best as possible. The chefs are also allowed to request a certain number of ingredients in addition to the staples prior to each competition.

Here I can watch the Barefoot Contessa...

Really like her show and her methods, but if I was married to her husband I would go loonie! Never a critic, always says everything is Wonderful!

The other one we get here is a blonde lady in the South with a big white house.. can't think of her name...

I don't miss the UK cooking shows, Jamie Oliver drove me around the bend with his "mockney" accent, his pukka food and his mates coming 'round for tea, watching Delia is like watching paint dry and Nigella, well I use dto really like her, but I found she has become so affected now and is really working the gastroporn more than the food...

There is good Australian one called the Cook and the Chef, and basically you have a big city high end chef and a home cook and they put a meal together using their respective "techniques"

What about that Australian woman who does fusion kinds of preparations. I sure agree

exactly with all your comments about the others. If I never hear Nigella moaning about how luuuuuuuuushus and lllluuuuuvlly her food is again, it will still be too often. But whatever makes money for her, I guess.

And Oliver always looks so dirty. I saw the first few of his shows when he supposedly came right off the street on his bike, carrying bread with no bag, never washed...and got right into the food.

I like Ina's cooking, but she hardly needs her husband to tell her everything is wonderful, she

congratulates herself enough for both of them. "Perfect," "Delicious," "Just right."

Just once I'd like to see her taste something, screw her face up and say, "Yuck! What'd I do?!"

Too right about Oliver!

He's grubby. He just opened a Fifteen here in Melbourne - I went to the one in London and it was allright, but still he bugs me!

I don't know who the fusion woman is here... I'll have to keep looking.

That would be funny!

I just wish once her husband would say - no dear, you go to the shops and get it yourself, I'm going out drinking with the guys!
