What's your favorite "fast food" - not homecooked? We had...

Hi Brian, now I remember that you were originally from here... next time...

I go to Utica I will have to try it. I have been by there many times, but we never stopped. It isn't much from the outside - is there a place to sit down or is it just a take-out place? A little white and black building, right?

Dawn/NYS: more info inside ...

No place to sit down. Its basically a "stand" and you order in one window and pick it up at the next window. You can eat in the car, or at the limited space around the building.

Dorothy Voss, the long time owner, was a local gourmet and a good friend of my mothers. I spent many days in there working and ... eating! She roasted all her own meats: pork, beef, turkey, and ham for the bar bq sandwiches. She had fresh Haddock sandwiches every Friday, and great hamburgs and hot dogs. She brushed the buns with melted butter and toasted them on the grill as the meat was cooking. Dorothy made her own chili and used all meat .. no beans. She also made her own bar bq sauce, and its awesome. The bad news is she passed away a few years ago. But the good news is her family has kept the business going and, to the best of my knowledge, they still prepare everything the way she used to.

As I grew up Dorothy taught me tons about cooking. My mother was just like her, so thats where I got my interest. If you do get to stop by I hope you enjoy it. Every time I get back there I stop. Of course, its only open during the summer months.

AngAk .. you are right about that too. I think they just ...

celebrated a huge anniversary .. like maybe 50 or 60 years?? I love places like that cuz they survive. I am kind of hooked on Simon & Seaforts for that reason. I started going there when they first opened and have been going there ever since. They have changed owners and managers but I still like it.

The problem I have in Anchorage is I tend to go to the same places all the time. Its difficult for me to break out and try the new places. But there are some I would like to try. I have to work on that.

thanks...

Check out the French Fries with Cheese and Gravy recipe on Epi, it's in the buzz box and

has certainly gotten a lot of people stirred up, lol.

Oooh, those chili dogs were a favorite of mine too in the past. Don't have a Wienerschnitzel

near me now, but then, maybe that's a good thing. ;o)
